Yesterday, the popular travel blog, Vagabondish featured a post on the wreck of former Beaufort resident and infamous pirate Blackbeard’s ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Check it out.
The piece is very brief. For more information check out the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources’ site on the Queen Anne’s Revenge, detailing the 1718 wreck in our own Beaufort Inlet.
Pirates not being the best of role models, I have always been a bit weary of the popular fascination with the surly lot of bandits. But, in recent years I have mellowed a bit (though I did pass on the pirate party during our Disney cruise back in April), hence the title of this post.
It is important to remember as we enjoy our aaarghs, that the good men of Beaufort put down the attacks of a group of pirates back in 1747, an event which we commemorate every year with the Beaufort Pirate Invasion festivities.
Enjoy the Vagabondish post, and check out the rest of the site, too.
Aaargh.
