Bring Home Beaufort with some Beaufort Palms

By Mark Leave a Comment

While we feel that the name Bringing Home Beaufort is pretty catchy, it does have a deeper meaning.

Our goal is to help you have a great time in Beaufort, to relax, and to be at-leisure. We also want to help you bring the best of Beaufort back home to keep that leisure mind-set.

One of the best ways to accomplish that bringing home is to surround yourself with things that remind you of Beaufort. Those things could include food, drink, music, photographs, paintings, shells, written memories, or simply the act of reminiscing.

It could also include replicating parts of the natural landscape, which is what this post is about.

Palm trees.

Three quick, easy, and inexpensive steps to start fishing in Beaufort!

By Mark 2 Comments

For many folks around Beaufort and Carteret County, fishing is work. But, for those of us who visit, fishing is sport, and more importantly, fishing is leisure.

Our three crumb-grabbers fishing at Fort Macon…

Until this past spring we had not fished much for 15 years. We started back recently, and we have had a ball.

Don’t eat out in Beaufort, NC until you read this review!

By Mark Leave a Comment

Beaufort, NC has enough amazing restaurants to keep you well-fed for days on end. We have links to many of them on our Eat & Drink links page.

But, if you are a first time visitor to Beaufort, where do you start?

Start with the best.

Start with the Blue Moon Bistro.

A little disclaimer – Blue Moon has not paid us a dime. We love the place. We have eaten at Blue Moon dozens if not hundreds of times and have never, ever had a less than top-notch meal and experience. That said, if they ever wanted to pay us, we would definitely barter for food over cash!

Three ways that staying in downtown Beaufort will help you relax!

By Mark 3 Comments

When visiting Beaufort for a few days or more, the first question to ask yourself is, “where should I stay?”

Stay downtown.

Beaufort has a historic and commercial district near the water that we simply refer to as “downtown.” In many, many situations (though not every situation), staying in this area is the way to go.

Making the decision to stay downtown will make your life easier in three specific ways, all of which should help you get in more of what we are looking for at Bringing Home Beaufort – leisure.

1. Limited options & choices

Limited options and choices sound negative – ignore that sound, limits are a positive thing.

Too many options and choices often lead to excess time devoted to decision making. Limit options and you spend more time at leisure and less time stressing about decisions.

The first way staying downtown will help you is that it will limit your choices – fewer options means less time engaged in decision making and more time for leisure.

Beaufort has only two hotels downtown – the Beaufort Inn and the Inlet Inn.

The Beaufort Inn is located at the very west end of Ann Street

The Inlet Inn is located at the corner of Front and Queen Streets

I have stayed at both many times and love them, though each is a distinct experience. We will give you detailed reviews of both in the future. But if you are staying in a hotel downtown you have to pick one or the other (Beaufort does have a few B&Bs and many houses to rent but we will deal with them in future posts – we’ll stick to the hotels now).

Limit your choices; stay downtown.

The coolest small town in America?

By Mark Leave a Comment

If you have or will visit Beaufort during 2012 or if you do any research on Beaufort, you will definitely come across reference to the coolest small town in America.

We have always thought of Beaufort as one of the coolest places anywhere, but earlier in the year, Budget Travel magazine readers voted Beaufort the coolest small town in America.

You can read all about it on Budget Travel’s site.

The photo above is a banner that hung for a while from the Dockhouse Restaurant in Beaufort. The Dockhouse is a great place for a beer and hands down the best people watching spot in Beaufort.

What’s in a name?

By Mark Leave a Comment

Bringing Home Beaufort deals exclusively with coastal North Carolina and of course we feature the town of Beaufort, North Carolina.

It never takes long for folks to realize that another town with the same spelling exists in South Carolina.

While the spelling is the same, the pronunciation of the two town names is very different.

Our Beaufort is said bow-fort our South Carolina neighbor is pronounced bew-fort.

When visiting either town it is advisable that you get the name right or risk at the least a snicker or two, and at the worst a thorough tongue-lashing.

Remember, we’re bow-fort and our friends farther south are bew-fort.

And just to show we’re open to other places here’s Beaufort, South Carolina’s official city homepage (our feeling won’t be hurt if you don’t click).
